The second weekend on the Annual Surrey County championships started with Woking in close second with other clubs right behind us. We were determined to work hard to maintain our position. Session 1 The swimming started with an incredible performance from the U12 girls with Ellie Macleod (1.17.29), Francesca Johnson (1.18.58) and Eva Selden (1.22.06) placing 1st, 2nd and 3rd to reach the final. 100 fly was flooded with Woking talent with 10 swimmers competing in the event. Woking Masters ended 2022 on a high, with multiple members of the team showing their talent in the pool in the final British Swimming Masters Decathlon Competition results. The British Swimming Masters Decathlon Competition is an annual competition in which master’s swimmers (those in the 25+ age category) accumulate points for up to 10 swims out of the different swimming events (17 long course and 18 short course) available. Over the weekend Woking Swimming Club took part in the Surrey County Championship for 2023 at the Surrey Sports Park. Every year we aim to be as competitive as possible and after the first weekend we are currently sitting in second place on the points table. This highlighted a great team effort over the weekend where a large number of swimmers performed well and continued the competitive ethos of the club. Good luck to the 40 Woking Swimmers participating in over 230 races over the coming weekends at the Surrey Age Group Championships 2023. This year it's closer to home at the Surrey Research Park, and spans both the Saturday and Sunday on the weekends of 21/22nd Jan and 4/5th Feb . We would like to congratulate Alex Counsell on becoming a Swim England Level 3 Head Coach after completing his course work last season. Alex joined Woking Swimming Club a few months after I did 9 years ago as a level 1 coach, working between teaching and coaching swimmers in many levels. Well done to all the swimmers who were at the King of the Pool training session on Sunday the 4th December. These sessions are a great way for younger aspiring swimmers to test their skills and identify areas of strength and weakness so they can improve. South East Winter Short Course Championships 2022 The first major meet of the season saw our top senior swimmers travelling to Winchester to compete in South East Winter Short Couse (SC) Championships. This early in the season it is tough to swim at your best but is an outstanding opportunity to test yourself early on against the best in the South East. On Saturday the 3rd of December Woking Swimming Club had the KRSC-Epsom & Woking 800 & 1500m. The event was held at the Guildford Spectrum where we had 27 swimmers compete in the event. There was great effort all around and some very good swims. These are important events for swimmer development so well done to all that took part.
