Mike Hodgson wins, and WSC squad dominate, the British Swimming Masters Decathlon Competition

Wokingsc Masters

Woking Masters ended 2022 on a high, with multiple members of the team showing their talent in the pool in the final British Swimming Masters Decathlon Competition results.

The British Swimming Masters Decathlon Competition is an annual competition in which master’s swimmers (those in the 25+ age category) accumulate points for up to 10 swims out of the different swimming events (17 long course and 18 short course) available. Swimmers must compete in a minimum of one event in each of the 4 strokes, an IM and a distance freestyle

Each swim is awarded points as per the FINA Points Scoring tables. The time is age-adjusted using the Rowson formulae. Long Course swim times are converted to Short Course by using the current ASA Equivalent Performance Tables and all swims are scored using the latest Short Course FINA Points Scoring table.

At the end of the year, 10 swims are selected for each swimmer, and the points are combined to count toward a total point score.

Awards are then given to the top three overall Male and Female swimmers with the highest total points scores, and the top Male and top Female clubs.

The Competition runs from 1 January to 31 December each year and only includes performances within this period.

In the overall Male Club category, a team containing Michael Hodgson, David Bryant, Henry Goodlud and Jerry O’Riordan came out on top with 22546 points, beating their nearest competitor by 2,475.

Similar success was also demonstrated in the Female Club class, with Michelle Ware, Julie Howe, Jennie Clarke and Hannah Angell finishing within the top 5 teams.

In addition to team success, Woking Masters dominated the individual male and female leader boards.

Hodgson came out on top in the male category, a spectacular achievement to be the top overall age-adjusted  male masters swimmer in the country, followed by Bryant in 6th place, Goodlud in 26th and O’Riordan in 67th.

In the female category, Ware competed against a hugely competitive top 10 to finish in 4th place, trailed by Howe in 46th, Clarke in 117th and Angell in 183rd.

Congratulations to all swimmers who took part, we look forward to seeing what the year ahead brings!
