Surrey Age Group Champs 1st Weekend Report

Over the weekend Woking Swimming Club took part in the Surrey County Championship for 2023 at the Surrey Sports Park. Every year we aim to be as competitive as possible and after the first weekend we are currently sitting in second place on the points table. This highlighted a great team effort over the weekend where a large number of swimmers performed well and continued the competitive ethos of the club.

 

Day 1

Session number 1

Started with the Girls 200m Freestyle and in the 10-11yrs age group Abby Whitaker finished 7th. This was followed by the 12year old age group with Ellie Macleod taking gold in a time of 2.28.14, Eva Selden 4th and Francesca Johnson 6th. Violette Hornzee in the 14years age group and Tegan Gale in the 15years were both 7th. In the 16years group Rita Luzan was 5th and 7th was Sadie Warmington.

Next was the boys 200m breaststroke and both Takara Hasegawa-York, 12years old and Galahad Reeve 14years old groups finished 6th. Later Ryan Grealou was 8th in the 15years age group.

In the final of the Girls 100m Breaststroke Ellie Macleod was 4th in the 12year old girls. Then Lucy Wheeler picked up a silver in the 13years group with a time of 1.21.12. Tegan Gale later finished 8th in the 15years group and Sophie King finished 2nd in 17years and over category in a time of 1.14.93 gaining silver.

Last in session 1 was the boys 100m Freestyle Finals and Joshua Hutchinson in a time of 1.06.51 finished with bronze in the 12years old category. Next Ryan Turner took gold in the 13years old group in 1.02.49 with a solid performance.

 

Session number 2

First up was the Girls 400IM and it started with Gold to Ellie Macleod in 5.43.35 in a new club record and Eva Selden also swam well with a 6.05.56 to finish 3rd in the 12years age group. 8th place in the 13 years olds went to Lucy Wheeler.   Abi Elford in the 15years group was 4th with 5.36.83. Later in the 17years and overs Sophie King again finished 2nd in 5.14.14.

Next in the Boys 1500m Freestyle Ryan Turner took Gold in the 19.16.41 in 13years old age group.

First of the finals was the Girls 50 Backstroke and in the 12years old group Francesca Johnson was 5th and Ellie Macleod was 6th. Verity Larwood finished 8th in the 13years group and Violette Hornzee finished 4th in the 14th years old category. Tegan Gale was 5th in the 15years old group.  Bella Hornzee was 5th in the 16years group while Sadie Warmington took home the Bronze in that category with a time of 32.78 to finish off Woking Swimming Clubs day 1.

 

Day 2

Session number 1

Day 2 started with Joshua Hutchison taking out gold in 12years old boys 200m freestyle in 2.24.66 then Ryan Turner also followed up with Gold in the 13’s in a time of 2.16.62.  Neco Truter was 5th in the 14year old boys age group and Fredrick Van Der Leest also 5th in the 17years and over.

The Girls 200m Breastroke followed and Eva Selden finished 6th in the 12year olds. Lucy Wheeler followed up with a great swim for gold in the 13years age group 2.54.91. In the 17 years and over age group Sophie King took silver with 2.44.32. 

To finish off the morning the girls 100m Backstroke; Abby Whittaker finished 5th in the 11years old. In the 12years old group Ellie Macleod took gold in 1.17.74 and Francesca Johnson took bronze in 1.19.64 followed closely by Eva Selden in 4th place. Verity Larwood finished 6th in the 13yr olds, then Violette Hornzee took bronze in the 14year olds with a time of 1.13.46. Tegan Gale and Ella Pollock were 5th and 6th respectively in the 15years group and Sadie Warmington and Bella Hornzee were 4th and 5th respectively in the 16’s.

Session number 2 

The final session of the weekend started with Joshua Hutchison finishing in 4th place for the boys 200m backstroke for the 12years old age group and Daniel Turner 5th in the 15years group.

Ellie Macleod took out the 12years girls 800Freestyle in 10.28.15 for gold. Later Isabelle Hill finished 7th in the 17years and over age group.

In the boys 400m freestyle Joshua Hutchinson took gold in the 12years old in 5.10.85 as did Ryan Turner in the 13years old age group in 4.48.54. Neco Truter came in 5th in the 14years boys and Daniel turner was 8th in 15years old group.

The first final of the final session on day 2 was the girls 50m Freestyle and Woking started with Francesca Johnson taking bronze 30.74 and Ellie Macleod finished 7th in the 12years olds age group. Alex Platt then took gold in the 13years age group with 28.91 by .01 of a second. Next in the 15years olds Tegan Gale tied for first in 27.84 in a exciting race where she nailed her finish. Then Rita Luzan took bronze in the 16years group with 28.39. Sadie Warmington finished 7th.  Then Sophie King finished 4th in the 17years and over.

The last event of the weekend was the boys 50m Butterfly where Joshua Hutchinson ended his weekend taking silver in 33.73. Ryan Turner 33.18 was 5th in 13years old group.
