Saturday the 9th November was the 2nd Round of the National Arena League at Westcroft Leisure Center, Carshalton. Woking Swimming Club attended the South East Regional Short Course Championship held in Winchester over the weekend. The first championship of the season produced a number of good swims for WSC in one of the toughest Regions. Sophie King won the 100 in a new club record of 1:09.21. Woking Masters claimed a World Record at the 2024 Swim England Masters National Championships! The team of four, which consisted of swimmers ranging in age from 27 to 57, set a time of 3:42.80 in the 160+ mixed 4x100m freestyle. Gina Heyn, Michelle Ware, Michael Hodgson and Henry Goodlud beat the previous World Record by over three seconds, with Heyn leading the team out in a new European Record of 57.85 seconds. Round 1 of the National Arena League was swum at the Guildford Spectrum on Saturday the 12th of October. Woking Swimming Club finished in 2nd place and have given ourselves a good chance of going on to the region final but need to execute in the next round in order to do so. Woking are very proud that Sir Michael Holden, Woking referee has been awarded an honorary life vice-president award. Michael has been on poolside more or less since Natasha (his middle daughter) started swimming for Woking SC at the age of 5 and she is now 29. He decided, in 2000 when Natasha was accepted by Woking, it was way too hot to sit up in the gallery watching his kids swim in competitions.
