Surrey Championships Weekend 1
Over the weekend Woking Swimming Club took part in the Surrey County Championship for 2025 at the Surrey Sports Park. Every year we aim to be as competitive as possible and after the first weekend we are currently sitting in second place on the points table. This highlighted a great team effort over the weekend where a large number of swimmers performed well and continued the competitive ethos of the club.
Swimmers who place in the Top 8 score points for the club with Men are currently 3rd and Women sitting 2nd. Overall Woking are also sitting 2nd in the Tinlin Trophy.

Day 1
Session number 1
Started with the Men’s 1500m Freestyle and Silver to Joshua Hutchinson in 17.46.03 (14 years). Next was Alfie Davies taking gold in 17.56.12 and Ryan Turner taking silver in 18.17.25 (15 years).
The Girls 400IM was the next medal event with Ailsa Wotherspoon coming 8th with 6.13.43 (12 years) and Abby Whittaker taking bronze in 5.40.34 (13 years). Ellie Macleod was next taking silver in 5.21.05 and Eva Selden 8th in 5.58.12 (14 years). Bronze to Darcey Arnold 5.26.87, Lucy Wheeler was 4th 5.32.27 and Verity Larwood 7th in 5.42.09 and 7th (15years).
Boys 50m Breaststroke was the first final of the morning with Alexander Song gaining a Silver in 34.91 (14 years). Masters swimmer Max Freedman was 8th in 31.82 (17 and overs).
Last final of the morning session was the Girl’s 50m Backstroke starting with Federica Johnson 40.02 coming 6th (11 years). Next was 7th for Abby Whittaker in 35.34 (13years). Francesca Johnson in 33.86 was 5th, and Ellie Macleod 34.66 8th (14 years). 7th to Zoe Kwong was 6th in 33.33 and Darcey Arnold in 33.46 (15 years) and Tegan Gale 31.45 (17years and over).
Session number 2
Women’s 200m Backstroke was the first medal event of the afternoon. Federica Johnson was 5th in 3.01.38, Emmie Rose-Freeland 7th in 3.05.98 and Imogen Bulmer 5th 3.06.81. Abby Whittaker 2.37.96 was 4th (13 years) followed by Ellie Macleod taking Silver 2.32.41 (14years). Next, Darcey Arnold finished with 5th in 2.32.15 (15 years) and Violette Hornzee placing 4th in 2.33.66 (16 years).
Next was the Men’s 200m Butterfly and James Toghill 2.58.76 was 5th and Morgan Shaw was 7th in 3.09.11. Joshua Hutchinson in 2.27.06 took Gold, Israel Marango was 4th in 2.41.05 and Takara Hasegawa-York was 6th in 2.43.57.
First final of the afternoon was the Women’s 100m Breaststroke with Sofie Wade finishing 4th in 1.39.33 and Emmie Rose-Freeland 5th in 1.41.62. Keeley Thomas was 6th in 1.29.08 and Maria Stamenova 1.29.93 was 8th (13years). Silver went to Ellie Macleod 1.19.32 (14 years) and 5th to Lucy Wheeler 1.21.74 (15 years). Gold went to Sophie King in 1.12.07 (17years and over)
Then the Men’s 100m Freestyle followed to finish the day. Joshua Hutchinson in 59.26 took Silver and Alex Song was 8th in 1.03.64 (14 years). Next was Alfie Davies 4th place in 57.49 and Ryan Turner was 6th in 58.15 (15 years).
Finishing off with the Women’s 100m Butterfly, Sophie King won Gold in 1:02.39 (17 and Over). Ellie Macleod won a Silver with a time of 1:07.30 (14 years). Keeley Thomas finished in 4th with 1:12.45 (13 years). Tegan Gale finished with a 1:06.39 (17 and Over). Sadie Warmington finished with a 1:07.01 (17 and Over). Federica Johnson finished in 1:36.95 (10-11 years) 7th. Ailsa Wotherspoon also finished 7th in 01:20.51 (11 years).
