Rother League Round 1 - Saturday 14th May at Waterlooville

Woking SC BackOffice

Lead Coach Seb Leather thought it was a great night of racing with a positive and buzzing atmosphere from all the swimmers, regardless of the experience level. It was the first team gala for many of the junior swimmers involved therefore helping them understand more about swimming galas and Woking Swimming Club. The coach ride there and back provided a great opportunity for our junior swimmers to get excited and be coherent as a team and so many of the swimmers also got to meet other swimmers from different squads and levels.

Seb was supported by a team of staff and the night could not have run smoothly without them.

We were up against: Staines, Haslemere, Sutton & Cheam, Winchester Black and Havant & Waterlooville.

Even though the times are not official, as the electronic timing went down before we arrived, the effort and attitude to racing by the Woking Swimming Club team was fantastic, proven by the fact we had approximately a 90% PB rate for individual swims and some were by more than 5 sec. The relays provided a great way for swimmers to interact and race together, providing lots of fast swimming.

Overall, we came 5th, however the final placing was not reflective of how we swam as the gala had 'speeding tickets' for swims faster than a predetermined time.  The fact that we got so many of these is a sign of our club's ability and level of PB improvement where we achieved a huge amount of first places.

A positive night, ending with lots of happy faces and fast times, a good experience for the junior swimmers. The next round will be on Saturday the 11th of June and we are hoping to see more new faces as it looks to be at our home pool.
