Arena League Round 1

Woking SC Webmaster

Woking SC competed in the first round of the National Arena League out at Braywick Leisure Centre on Saturday the 14th of October.

Competing in the Premier division in the South league, it is always a real test of our swimmers' ability, bringing the strongest clubs in the country together to compete with a potential chance to swim at the final in Cardiff later next year.

Woking started the night with a bang sitting in 2nd after 10 events with some great swims in the relays winning 2 and gaining a further 4 top 3 finishes. A short drop in position saw us down to 5th after 20 events though a burst of 6 individual swims finishing in the top 3 gave a huge boost to our scores and put us back in the fight. We always knew that it was going to be tight as shown by Maidenhead being equal on points with us after 34 events with 114 each to tie 3rd. In fact the 3rd spot remained tight right to the finish with Woking SC prevailing achieving a very proud 3rd place by a slim 4 points.

It was a very exciting first round with a great atmosphere.  As always Woking showed great team spirit representing themselves and the club in a way we are all proud of. Woking SC once again had a lot of new faces who we think did an outstanding job in representing their club at such a big competition. Introducing swimmers to this level of swimming is a big part of our culture and something we hope to do for all who put in the hard work.

A special thanks to a strong showing from several masters swimmers who not only filled in an important role but competed amazingly for the club. Great job from coaches and team managers.

We are all looking forward to taking on the challenge of the next round on Saturday 11th of November.
