Woking Masters have retained their title as the top team at the Surrey Masters Championships and a World Record set in the process:

A side of 32 swimmers, who entered 236 individual and 26 relay team events, dove into Surrey Sports Park, claiming 218 medals (108 gold, 65 silver, and 45 bronze).

The Masters collected a total of 1,720 points, a whopping 663.5 points ahead of their nearest rivals, with the Women, who finished in first place, contributing 925 points, and the Men, who finished in second, adding an extra 617 points.

A further 178 points were claimed from relays, a category in which Woking again finished in first place.

Individual success was seen across the age categories; five Woking swimmers finished first in their age group, and a further nine swimmers finished in either second or third and a fabulous World Record equalled by Mike Hodgson in the 55-60yr 100IM event.

Mens 25-34 age group winner Henry Goodlud says: “The Surreys Masters Championship was a fantastic day of racing for everyone from Woking Masters.

“I’m very lucky to train and compete with such a talented team, especially my idol Mike Hodgson who I continue to be in awe of! It’s amazing to be part of such a strong squad, I look forward to seeing how the team continues to progress next season.”

Five Woking swimmers now head to Japan for the Masters World Championships to test their talents on the World Stage. Good luck to Mike, Michelle, Jennie, David and Jerry!
