Sophie King Swims British Champs

Woking SC Webmaster

While many were enjoying their Easter break last week the best British swimmers
congregated at the home of British swimming, Ponds Forge in Sheffield, for the
British Championships 2023.

This competition brings together the best in the Country
alongside with the best hope for the future on the international stage. Featuring
superstars Duncan Scott, Freya Anderson, Anna Hopkin, Tom Dean just to name a
few, with the best ranked juniors in the country. Among those potentials was our very
own Sophie King.

Sophie started her competition with the 200 IM on Saturday. Using her strengths
with a solid fly and breaststroke leg she managed to post a season’s best of 2.23.44.
Enough to put her into the Junior final ranked 5th later that day.

Her final had tight competition with only a second separating 1st and 8th. Though
things clicked well going a second faster than her morning swim with a 2.22.45. The
quality of the competition showed with Sophie finishing 6th in the final.

The 100 breaststroke was next on the Sunday. Her heat swim started well with
Sophie doing enough to finish 16th overall, meaning she snuck into the B final,
swimming another season’s best of 1.12.31. Sophie worked hard in the final
swimming just off her morning swim with a 1.12.40 to finish 8th.

A huge congratulations for her efforts, another great feat to add to her achievements.
British Championships 2023 complete.

Well done Sophie.
