South East Regionals Age Group Championships Weekend 2
After two weekends of quality racing, the age groups competed at Winchester for the final time of the 2025 South East Regional LC Championships. This was the last chance for the age group swimmers to qualify for the Summer nationals with the qualifying window closing shortly after.
Session 1
starting with the boys 200IM prelims, Takara Hasegawa-York and Alexander Song for the 14 year old were up first. Alex was 6th coming in at 2:25.03 and Takara was 8th with a 2:27.22, starting off with PB's and both going through to the finals.
Next event was the girls 1500m freestyle. Abby Whittaker placed 5th, coming in at 18:54.54, a 15 second pb and with this swim she grabs herself a spot for the summer nationals.
Next up was the boys 800m freestyle. Joshua Hutchinson for the 14 year olds finishes 2nd with a 9:09.55, pushing him up the rankings for British champs.
Session 2
Starting with the finals of the boys 200IM where Alex and Takara were back at it again, finishing 7th and 8th respectively for the 14 year old boys.
Moving on to some sprint events, next was the girls 50m backstroke, Fran Johnson (14 year olds) places 13th with a 33.81 and Erin Henderson (14 year olds) comes in at 27th with a 35.08.
The boys 50m freestyle saw Josh Hutchinson come in 11th with a 27.23 which was slightly above is pb.
Next, was the girls 200m breaststroke, first up was Ailsa Wotherspoon (12 year olds) placing 14th with a 3:10.13.
Next, the boys 200m butterfly, which saw James Toghill for the first time placing 19th for 13 year olds with a 2:59.19. For the 14 year olds, we had Josh Hutchinson and Takara racing. Josh comes in 4th with a 2:25.44 putting him through to the finals and Takara places 16th with a 2:34.68.
Next was the girls 100m freestyle, Abby Whittaker placed 11th with a 1:04.35 and Maria Stamenova placed 14th with a 1:04.69 for the 13 year old girls. For the 14 year old girls, Ellie Macleod comes in at 1:00.38 seeding 4th for the finals.
Final prelims of the day was the boys 100m backstroke. Alex Song placed 19th with a 1:11.58 for 14 year old boys.
Finals
First finals for woking was the boys 200m butterfly, Josh Hutchinson dropped 2 seconds from his prelim swim to finish 4th with a 2:23.28.
Finals for the girls 100m freestyle saw Ellie Macelod break 60 seconds for the first time, clocking in at 59.54, moving her up a spot and finishes with a bronze medal
Session 3
First up was the boys 50m breaststroke, Daniele Zummo (13 year olds) comes in at 39.14 placing 19th, and Morgan Shaw comes in at 39.84, placing. Alex Song for the 14 year olds places 7th with a 34.45, putting him through to the finals.
Next was the girls 50m fly, Ailsa Wotherspoon (12 year olds) placed 11th with a 33.64. Keeley Thomas comes in at 32.95 (13 years old) and placed 23rd. Eva Selden (14 year olds) placed 13th with a 31.69. Fran Johnson (14 year olds) placed 26th with a 32.69.
Next was the boys 200m backstroke. Takara placed 10th with a 2:29.28 for the 14 year olds.
Followed by the girls 200m freestyle, Abby Whittaker(13 years) placed 10th with a 2:18.59. Ellie Macleod (14 years) seeds second for the finals at 2:12.32.
The boys 100m butterfly Josh Hutchinson coming 10th, Alex Song placing 21st and Israel Marango placing 23rd and Takara placing 25th for the 14 year old boys.
Next was the girls 100m breastroke where Ailsa Wotherspoon (12 years) touched at 1:31.25, placing her 19th.
Finals
Alex song was up first for the 50m breast finishing 8th at 35.43.
Next up was Ellie Macleod for the 200m free and she takes a silver clocking at 2:09.35, almost 3 seconds faster than her prelim swim.
Session 4
Final session for the regionals started with the boys 50m backstroke. Alex song placed 13th with a 32.17 for the 14 year olds.
Next was the girls 50m freestyle. Maria Stamenova (13 years) comes in at 29.20 and seeds 4th for the finals. Eva Selden (14 years) placed 24th with a 29.94
The boys 400m freestyle saw Josh Hutchinson grab his first regional title with a 4:23.07 for the 14 year old boys.
Next was the girls 400m IM. Ailsa Wotherspoon placed 6th with a 5:55.47 for the 11-12 year olds. Abby Whittaker placed 12th with a 5:37.44 for the 14 year olds, both hitting a personal best.
Finals
Final swim of the regionals came from Maria Stamenova in the 13 year olds 50m free. She finished 6th clocking in at 29..08, slightly lowering her prelim swim.
