British Summer National Championships 2024
As the season comes to a close it's time for the best swimmers in the country to come together and test their nerves. Sheffield's Ponds Forge yet again plays host to the British Summer National Championships 2024. WokingSC are proud to have 4 Individuals and 1 relay team qualify and compete across the 7 day event.
Day 1
Darcey Arnold (14) started a long week of swimming with her 1st of 6 events with the 1500M freestyle. Her stroke looked good with decent pacing to finish with her second fastest 1500 of her career with a 18:27.02. Doing enough to move up the ranks to finish 14th.
Day 2
Darcey was back for her second event with the 400 freestyle. Going out with the right intention though ultimately struggled falling off her best, finishing with a 4.44.05. Sophie King (18) started her British Champs with the 50 breaststroke. The highly experienced swimmer managed a Seasons best with 32.99 finishing 13th moving up the rankings by 7 places.
Day 3
Sophie went into her last day of the competition with the 100 breaststroke swimming a 1:11.91. Managing to do enough to improve her entry ranking by a massive 9 places to make the final ranked 7th.
For the final She kept her cool and managed to step up again by going faster with a Seasons best and her second fastest swim to date with a 1.11.45. Fishing with 7th. A great performance as the only 18 year old in the open age group.
Day 4
Day 4 started with Tegan Gale (16) diving in for the splash and dash 50 freestyle. Just missing out on her PB, though she managed her 3rd fastest swim to date with a 27.16. This was enough to make it into the final finishing 9th.
Before her final though she led the 4 x 100 fc relay team alongside Darcey, Alex Platt (14) and, in her first Nationals event, Izzy Rose (15). The team only just qualified in 30th Position so had no pressure going into it though did enough to finish 25th with Izzy being the swimmer of the team going over 2 sec faster than her LC PB on the third leg with a 1.02.5 split.
Tegan had her third swim of the day with the 50 free final swimming a 27.21, unable to improve on her ranking.
Day 5
The sole swim from Day 5 saw Darcey competing in the 200 freestyle finishing with a 2.12.33. This again another second fastest swim of her career so far.
Day 6
It was a tough final day with both Alex Platt and Tegan diving in for the 100 freestyle. Both struggled to uphold their entry time finishing with a 1.02.37 and 59.94 respectively.
Darcey Finished off the competition with an incredibly tough 400 IM and 800 free only hours apart. She started with a very solid fly and backstroke leg, though the arms couldn't quite hold on as she dropped off her PB it was still a very respectable 5.23.75.
She then entered the 800 free with no pressure finishing with a 9.46.65. A good effort after such a long weekend.
Overall it was a solid effort from our Woking swimmers. Multiple Seasons best, a large portion of second best times and swimmers moving up the ranks from their entry positions.
