Saturday 28th April saw three Woking Swimming Club swimmers, Michael Gar (13), Bella Gar (11) and Aiden Elford (11), travel to Cheltenham to take part in Race 2 of the GB Biathle Series where the top 6 finishers in each race (age group, girls and boys) were to be offered a place in the GB team!
Biathle is a continuous run-swim-run competition which consists of a pack start followed by a run, a swim before a final run to the finish line and great skill needed not only in the run/swims but in the all important ‘transition’ periods between the events.
Michael, at only 13 and running in the U15 category, raced the following run/swim/run combination 800m/100m/800m and finished in an amazing 2nd place position.
Aiden, still only 11, ran/swum/ran 400m/50m/400m in the U13 boys and raced home in a fantastic 4th position. Not to be outdone Bella, also only 11 years old, in an event with a high number of entrants in packed heats with final to follow (400/50/400), raced home in 6th position.
The finish positions in their categories were thus:
Michael (13) : 2nd in U15
Aiden (11) : 4th in U13
Bella (11): 6th in U13
This means all three athletes have been chosen to represent GB at the European Biathle Championship in Weiden, Germany on 27/29th July, 2018 with the added challenge of the swim portion of these races being in open water!
A fantastic achievement by all three athletes and congratulations to all three of you!
