Day 1 of the Regionals for our 15yr+ swimmers, saw Woking sprinters come out in force.
Anna Maine, freshly back from British Champs and her recent Junior World GB Team selection, swam great heats in the both 200m and 50m back ending as fastest qualifier but not swimming the finals as she rests after her big week.
Good heat swims followed by Thea Bloxham (50m back) , Ed Lee (200 free ) , Hazel Ferguson , Maddie Exton and Julia Jaworska (100 free ), Maddie, Hazel and Lucy Drinkall (50 fly ), Richard Sugden (50m breast) and Kieran Hodson Kilroy (50m and 100m breast), Lucy (200m back), Pippa Sceats (100m breast ) and Matthew (100m back and a new U16 Club Record) producing many finals swims in the evening session.
Pippa Sceats swam a solid finals swim to take 7th place in 1:21.31 sec followed by another 7th place from Kieran in the open 100m breaststroke.
The boys’ 50m finals started with Matthew Ferguson (15) swimming a 0.75 sec PB to take gold in the 16 yr category in a time of 24.76sec, setting a new U16 Club Record.

Ewan Smith, also back from a very successful British Champs, swam a great heat time in the 50m free which saw him through to the Open age group final, one of only two 17 yr olds to make the final, to join both Alex Smith and Owen Morgan. Great to see three Woking Swimmers in the final resulting in Gold for Owen Morgan in a time of 23.45sec, Silver for Alex Smith in 23.79 sec and 8th for Ewan 24.30 sec.

Maddie Exton swam a very close 100m free in the girls 17yr + age group, taking the Bronze medal in a time of 58.74 sec.

Relay swimmers started the day for Woking with the 14-16yr girls Medley team of Lucy Drinkall, Pippa Sceats, Abi Stemp and Alex Tait placing 12th out of 29 teams followed by the 17 and over girls of Anna Maine, Holly Gardiner, Maddie Exton and Hazel Ferguson securing a well deserved Bronze medal.
The boys came out in force for the freestyle relay, all swimmers doing Woking proud: Finlay Tattersdill, Brin Dorrell, Ben Smith and Matthew Ferguson along with Dominic Gunn,Max Chitty, Aidan Uttley and Ollie Zalaf. The 17 and over boys , Ewan Smith, Ed Lee, Kieran Hodson Kilroy and Alex Smith, proceeded to battle for the medals, and were rewarded with a Silver medal.
Solid heats swims from Pippa Sceats ( 200m breast), Julia Jaworska (50m free) , Matthew Ferguson , Max Chitty and Ollie Zalaf (all PB-ing in 50m fly), Alex Smith and Ed Lee (50m fly).
The finals saw some great swims from Woking swimmers:
Ewan Smith 5th place and PB in 50m fly, breaking 26sec for the first time in a 25.74 sec and setting a new Open Club Record.
Hazel Ferguson 4th and Maddie Exton a well deserved bronze in 50m freestyle

Lucy Drinkall 7th in 100m backstroke
and finally Matthew Ferguson taking the 16 yr 100m freestyle Gold in a PB of 54.24sec and a new U16 Club Record.

The final day and more great relays for the Woking swimmers. Representing Woking in the 14-16 yr 4x100m freestyle relay age group were : Abi Stemp, Lucia Veasey, Alex Tait and Lucy Drinkall in a great 8th place followed by Thea Bloxham, Julia Hind , Ciara Mulvihill and Pippa Sceats with solid swims and 25th place.
The 17 and over team of Anna Maine, Julia Jaworska, Maddie Exton and Hazel Ferguson then swam the closest race of the day, narrowly missing Gold and taking a well fought Silver medal.
The boys’ medley relays then took to the water: Brin Dorrell, Ollie Zalaf, Ben Smith and Matthew Ferguson and Aidan Uttley, Dominic Gunn, Max Chitty and Finlay Tattersdill all in the 14-16 yr group and Ewan Smith, Kieran Hodson Kilroy, Ed Lee and Alex Zalaf in 17+ relays.
More solid heat swims in the heats from Max Chitty (100m fly ), Julia Jaworska (200 free), Maddie Exton, Julia Jaworska and Lucy Drinkall (100m fly) and Matthew Ferguson (50m back), Holly Gardiner and Pippa Sceats (50m breast).
Final session saw finals for Maddie, Matthew and Lucy. Matthew was first up and in a very close race was pipped to Silver in 50m back, setting his 4th Club Record of the weekend. An even closer race saw Lucy agonisingly miss out on a medal in 100m fly , placing 4th by the narrowest of margins, following this with a solid 200IM final.
Maddie finished off the day with yet another medal in the 100m fly, taking bronze.
