Congratulations to all the Woking swimmers who competed at the South East winter regionals, held in Portsmouth this weekend.
Anna Maine was rewarded with a fistful of medals: three golds in the Women’s Open 100m freestyle, 100m and 50m backstroke and two silver medals in the 50m freestyle and 200m backstroke.
Matthew Ferguson was also rewarded with a suite of medals, collecting three Junior Gold medals in the 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke and 100m freestyle as well as a senior silver medal in the 50m backstroke, narrowly missing out on first place in the senior final by only 0.01 second.
Alex Smith, on the back of his great form at the Masters Championships last weekend, brought home the Gold medal in the senior 50m freestyle.
Ewan Smith was in fine sprinting form and was unlucky to miss out on a medal placing fourth in both the 50m freestyle and 50m fly.
Great to see some Woking younger swimmers at Winter Regionals, as qualification times were tougher than ever this year with our younger swimmers having to make the same Junior 16 and under qualifying time. So, great swims by Brin Dorrell (50m freestyle), Abbi Stemp in 50m , 100m fly and 200m freestyle.
Other senior swimmers performed well after a hard week’s training in Cyprus: Richard Sugden, Max Dorrell, Lucy Drinkall, Holly Gardiner, Thomas Webb, Julia Jaworska and birthday boy Alex Zalaf.
Congratulations to Anna and Alex, who based on their winning performances have been selected to represent the south-east at the Flanders Speedo Cup 18th to 22nd January 2018. Congratulations to you both.Share this page:
