Some of Woking’s younger swimmers took part in the Bracknell and Wokingham Long Course Level 3 Open Meet, held at Aldershot Garrison on the 18th April. It was a great performance by everyone, some of whom swam in a long course pool for the very first time.
In the first race of 200m backstroke, the gold medal went to Francesca Beddow (Open Age Group) and Aidan Uttley (14). Winner of the 100m butterfly was Ben Smith (13), with runners up Maisie Coghlan (13) and Max Chitty (12), and third place for Dylan Bailey (13) and Aidan.
The fastest in the 200m breaststroke were Daisy Bloxham and Joshua Thompson (both 11), with the latter achieving bronze in the 200m IM and Maisie Coghlan winning the gold.
As the day progressed, the swimmers weren’t short of victories; Thea Bloxham (13), Francesca and Ben won silvers in the 100m freestyle. WSC dominated the podium in the 200m butterfly with gold to Dylan, Aidan and Thomas Webb (Open Age Group).
Success continued for Aidan, Maisie and Joshua, all silver medallists in the 50m backstroke. In the 100m backstroke, the WSC swimmers showed outstanding skills with gold to Ciara Mulvihill, Connor Lockwood (11), Noah Trundle (14), Mariano Lines (Open Age Group) and silver to Thea.
In the 200m freestyle, our athletes were fearsome competitors. Annabel Mullooly (9), Francesca and Ben placed second, Amy Kearney (Open Age Group) and Charles Wale (9) came third. The 100m breaststroke saw an outstanding performance by Lana Finnegan (11), Caitlin Byrne (14) and Noah with silver medals, Sophie Hudson (14) and James Mann (11) gaining bronzes.
The final sprints crowned the day, with WSC shining in the top three positions. In the 50m butterfly, the golds went to Dylan and Mariano, the silvers to Thea and Noah and the bronzes to Alice Arthur (14), Amy, Reef Cawthraw (12) and Aidan. The 50m freestyle, the flagship and final event in the triumphant day, saw golds for Ciara, Amy and Mariano. Second places went to Annabel, Elizabeth Mosdell (Open Age Group), Charles and Noah. Third places went to Isabel Simons (11), Caitlin and Aidan Brand.
Woking Swimming Club proudly came away with a medal table of 18 gold, 21 silver and 14 bronze. Not bad for a quiet Spring Sunday. Well done everyone!
