Woking swimmers were out in force again at the K2 in Crawley, on 27th and 28th May, for the final weekend (day 3 and 4) of the 14/U South East Regional Championships.
DAY 3 HEATS
Boys 200 IM heats
Hendrik van der Leest was the first Woking swimmer of the weekend and didn’t disappoint with a massive 6 second PB, a phenomenal swim, to take him through as 4th fastest to the evening finals with a time of 2:28.64sec and setting an impressive new club record!
Girls 200m breaststroke heats
Zoe Ryan was the first Woking girl of the day with an equally impressive PB. An excellent swim by Zoe, digging deep and rewarded with a new PB of 3:08.7sec and a place on the reserve list for the final later today.
Boys 200m fly heats
Charlie Wale was next up and fought a hard race in the gruelling 200m fly and finished in style finishing in a time of 2:59.20.
Girls 100m free heats
The Woking girls were out in force for the 100m free. Zoe Ryan, in her 2nd race of the session, had a stormer of a race PB’ing at 1:08.81. A very close race, coming 3rd in the heat. Kiera Heney followed with an excellent start, leading all the way with a very strong finish and another PB in time of 1:04.52 and qualifying in first place for the final. Alex Tait and Abigail Stemp were the 14yr Woking swimmers, both having great swims, Alex finishing with a time of 1.03.71 and Abigail fought hard all the way to the end, setting a time of 1:03.20 and a reserve place in the final.
Boys 100m backstroke heats
Dominic Gunn, Hendrik van der Leest, Brin Dorrell were the Woking trio next up. Hard fought swims by all three boys in fast heats. Well done to Hendrik and Brin who made it onto the reserved list for the finals.
Girls 50m backstroke heats
Kiera Heney was back in the water for the 50 backstroke. Another great swim by Kiera, 34.73sec and a place in the final placed 5th. Lucia Veasey, in 14 yr category, swam a close race and resulted in a time very close to her PB of 34.14sec.
Boys 50 freestyle heats
Hendrik van der Leest and Brin Dorrell finished the session with the splash and dash of the 50m free, Hendrik setting a time of 29.91sec and Brin a fine swim of 26.89sec and a place in the final.

DAY 3 FINALS
BOYS 200IM 13yr FINAL
Hendrik’s gutsy swim in the final saw him break 2 mins 30sec for the second time in a time of 2:29.54, claiming 6th place.
GIRLS 11/12 YEARS 100m FREESTYLE FINAL
Perhaps the closest final of the night was to follow with Kiera battling it out for the whole 100m and rewarded with a bronze medal in a phenomenal time and PB of 1:03.73. So very well deserved first regionals medal.
GIRLS 11/12 YEARS 50m BACKSTROKE FINAL
Kiera was back in the water for her second final, setting yet another PB and a very creditable 5th place.
BOYS 14 YEARS 50m FREESTYLE FINAL
Finally Brin Dorrell’s sprint final saw him PB once again and narrowly miss a medal by only 0.02 sec in a time of 26.60sec in 4th place.
Brin now hopes this time, along with his 50m back time set yesterday in Cardiff, will set him firmly in the nationals qualifying rankings, so sending him to Nationals for the first time. Well done Brin!
DAY 4 HEATS
Boys 200m back heats
Hendrik’s first race of the day saw him battle hard and rewarded with another major PB in a time of 2:26.22, placing him securely in 5th position going into the finals and more impressively breaking yet another club record. Brin Dorrell followed with his heat time placing him 15th and Dominic Gunn rewarded with over a 2 second PB in a time of 2:29.42.
Girls 200m free heats
The PBs keep on coming for Kiera Heney, setting a fantastic time in her 200m free heat swim in a time of 2:24.39, giving Kiera yet another regional final, placed 6th. Abbi Stemp followed in her strong heat swim, setting a time of 2:15.25 and placing her agonisingly close to a finals place in 9th position.
Boys 100m Fly heats
Charlie Wale, in his first regionals, set a great time, finishing strongly in a time of 1:16.29 and placing him an impressive 11th position out of 34 swimmers.
Girls 100m breast heat
Zoe Ryan was on fine form yet again in her breaststroke, setting another PB in a time of 1:28.32 and only a couple of second off a finals place. Erin Pritchard followed with a solid swim close to her PB in 1:27.28.
Boys 50m breast heats
Joshua Thompson was the first Woking breaststroke sprinter on the blocks and swam a feisty swim, within 0.04sec of his PB in a time of 37.78sec.
Girls 50m fly heats
Abbi Stemp was back in the water with her favourite stroke, this time in 50m fly, and 8th place in the heats in a time of 30.40sec saw her safely into the afternoon finals and two great swims by Alex Tait and Lucia Veasey in very close heats in times of 31.84 and 32.00secs respectively.
Boys 400m Heats
Kudos for Dominic Gunn for qualifying for the 400m free at regionals and swimming a 4:38.01 setting a new PB by an impressive 4 seconds. Great swim, Dominic.
DAY 4 FINALS
BOYS AGE 13 200m BACKSTROKE FINAL
Hendrik’s final saw yet another gutsy swim, beating his PB yet again and breaking the club record set in the heats with an impressive time of 2:25.00 and 6th place in a very fast final. This marked the end of a very successful weekend for Hendrik.
GIRLS AGE 11/12 200m FREESTYLE FINAL
Kiera’s final’s time of 2:22.25 saw over 2 seconds slashed off her previous PB, set in the heat, and a 6th place with only a couple of seconds between Kiera and a medal! Another Woking swimmer with a great first regionals!
GIRLS AGE 14 50m BUTTERFLY FINAL
Abbi, swimming in the final race of the competition, set a time of 30.58sec in 7th place.
Well done to all the Woking swimmers this weekend. Some great PBs, solid swims, club records , finals swims and a medal for Kiera!
