Learn to Swim with Woking Swimming Club

We are pleased to announce that Woking Swimming Club in association with Woking Borough Council will be running 60 learn to swim sessions for 3-7 year olds each week subject to availability.

The lessons will take place at the new Goldsworth Primary School Pool on Monday, Wednesday or Friday evenings between 5pm and 7pm or Saturday mornings from 8am to 12 noon. Each lesson will be 25 minutes. There will be the option to swim once or twice a week.

Spring Term 2014 will run from 6th January to 11th April 2014.
No swimming on Bank Holidays.

DUCKLINGS (3 years and over)

1. Enter unaided (w/o use of steps)

2. Re-gain to standing front & back

3. Scoop water and wash face

4. Front Kick + Float straight legs long arms chin in width

5. Back Kick + Float straight legs ears in looking up width

6. Push &Glide aided Prone & Supine

7. Front Paddle blowing bubbles width

8. Back Paddle looking up ears in width

9. Float Prone & Supine aid can be used 3 secs

10. Pick up Object bottom of shallow end with hands

11. Understand Health & Hygiene, pool rules & safety

12. Exit Pool safely unaided

Progression to Beginners 1

BEGINNERS 1 (4+ years with armbands)

For children whom are not water confident

1. Jump in regain standing

2. Re-gain to standing front & back without support

3. Front Crawl Kick + float 5m

4. Back Crawl Kick + float 5m

5. Front Paddle 5m

6. Back Paddle 5m

7. Face in water blow bubbles

8. Push &Glide face in water

9. Retrieve sinker with hands in shallow end

10. Star Float Prone & Supine 3 secs

11. Understand 3 hygiene & 3 safety rules

Progression to Beginners 2

BEGINNERS 2 (4+ years without armbands)

For children who can swim unaided on front and back

1. Jump in & submerge

2. Front Crawl Kick + float 10m

3. Back Crawl Kick + float 10m

4. Front Paddle 10m

5. Back Paddle 10m

6. Push & Glide face in water

7. Blow Bubbles 4 times face in water

8. Retrieve sinker with hands shallow end

9. Star Float Prone & supine 5secs

10. Sink, push away from wall on side & maintain streamline position

11. Push & Glide on the front with arms extended & log roll onto back

12. Push & Glide on the back with arms extended & log roll onto front

13.Travel on front, tuck to rotate around a horizontal axis to return to back

Progression to Improver 1

IMPROVER 1

For children whom can swim 10 metres on their front and back and are able to submerge fully for five seconds.

1. Jump in, deep end regain standing

2. Front Crawl Kick + float breathing to side 10m

3. Back Crawl Kick arms at side 15m

4. Front Crawl breath to side 10m

5. Breaststroke Kick + float 10m

6. Breaststroke Kick on Back 10m

7. Butterfly Kick on front or back 10m

8. Push & Glide into handstand

9. Retrieve sinker with 2 hands in deep end

10. Mushroom float 5secs

11. Swim through a hoop

12. Scull head first 10m

13. Travel on back & roll in one continuous movement onto front

14. Travel on front & roll in one continuous movement onto back

15. Understand 5 hygiene & 5 safety rules


Progression to Improver 2

IMPROVER 2

For children who can swim front crawl with breathing for 10 metres, back crawl for 15 metres and maintain breast stroke legs for 10 metres

1. Jump in, deep end regain standing

2. Front Crawl Kick + Float breathing to side 15m

3. Back Crawl Kick arms at side 15m

4. Front Crawl breathing to side 15m

5. Back Crawl straight arms 15m

6. Breaststroke Kick + float 15m, feet turned out

7. Breaststroke 10m

8. Back Crawl 15m

9. Butterfly arms

10. Push & Glide forward roll

11. Swim through a hoop & retrieve a sinker before surfacing

12. Scull feet first 10m
