This notice will also be regularly updated so please keep checking the
board.
Please note that, with immediate effect, I shall
not be accepting any entries which are handed in after the publicised WSC

all swimmers losing out because a meet has been over-subscribed and our
entries did not arrive in time.

Cranleigh Open 17th

Nothing less than first or second place would win the honours on the night.
The Woking team rose to the occasion and stormed through into first
place, thereby securing the Minor League Cup for the third year in
succession.

Points were:
Woking 228
Southampton 224
Hamble 198

Rother League Round 1
Woking hosted Round 1 of the Rother League at Fleet - an unusual
experience hosting a home gala in an away pool,

kind enough to give up their evening for a short trip south. Many thanks!
They were not disappointed as they, along with the travelling "home"
support were treated to a victorious performance by the Woking team.

more, dominated the relays and were in the first three places in 29 out of

Minor League Round 1 -
28th April
Woking sent a team to Havant & Waterlooville for the first round of the
Minor League. Seven other teams joined in this particular round which made
the venue a very fully attended one!
Woking, swimming in lane 7, made their intentions clear from the start
and commenced to dominate the gala after 10 events. Once more the team
showed their determination and team spirit to ensure victory in preparation
for Round 2, the final round.
PB’s came from Natasha Carr, Sam Rumball, James Watson and Hannah
Russell. There were some solid swims from all the age groups performing from
the Under 11’s to the Open swimmers. The Relay teams were supreme with 10 of
the 11 relays securing a first place, the remaining one was a very close
second! The squadron relay was decisive.
29 first places and 11 second places gave the team a victory by over 60

The B Team travelled to Waterlooville and after a very close contest in
the early stages with Epsom emerged the final victors to claim the Division

Surreys - Final Weekend
The final events of the 2007 Surrey County Championships took place at
Aldershot on the 18th March with the 800m Girls and 1500m Boys events.
Swimming
a marvellous PB in the 800m, Catherine Taylor picked up a silver medal in
her age group. Sarah Noble also swam a personal best but finished just
outside the medal positions so was unable to repeat her 1500m performance.
Katherine Robbings also swam the 800 and didn't quite get a PB.
Robert Taylor set off in fine form in the 1500m but finished outside
his PB.
Jeremy Mulliez swam a great PB in the 1500 and broke the Under 14 Club
Record in the attempt.
Woking SC also received a good piece of news at the weekend with
reference to the Bagcat results. Due to an error on the database there was a
miscalculation in the 13 year old Boys results and after a recheck it was
confirmed that Daniel Gibson had come 3rd. Well done Daniel!
The
2007 Woking performance in medals (53 in total), club records and personal
achievements has been the best for a number of years, once more showing that
the ethos and training schedules are having a positive effect. Over half of
the swims were PB's, which following on so soon after Club Championships is
a really encouraging sign.
Calling all WSC Parents - An urgent appeal for help!
Your club needs you!
It takes over 30 people – Technical and non-technical - to organise and run
a gala or club competition. Woking Swimming Club needs volunteers,
particularly parents of the younger club swimmers, to help put together
these events.

Wey B Junior Championship Cup
Another fantastic weekend for Woking Swimming Club with the successful
defence of the Wey B Junior Championship Cup for the second year running and
the addition of the Pat Dunn-Baker Trophy for the Under 10 Relay teams.

This was a timed event gala, and out of 32 individual swims there were no
less than 18 Personal Bests and out of a total of 46 events, WSC came 1st -
3rd in 33. A great deal of work was accomplished prior to the gala in the
team selection from those swimmers who were available and it all paid off in
the end.
Great swimming from all of the participants and particularly encouraging
from the Under 10 Relay teams.
Results on the night were:
Woking 192
Wandsworth 157
Southampton 149
Kingston 137
Dorking 132
Barracuda 112

The weekend of the 24th and 25th February is at Crystal Palace and the
programme includes the 50's and the Relays
Gemini Trophy
Woking stormed to victory on Saturday 4th February
at Pool in the Park in the Gemini League.
As newly promoted Group 2 Champions from 2006, Woking had a point to
prove having had to pull out of this league in 2005 due to a Schools Gala
clash with the fixture. In 2004 they were Group 1 runners up. By the end of
Saturday evening they were Group 1 Champions. The last time Woking lifted
the Group 1 Gemini Cup was 1999.
The Gemini League, which sees 2 teams from each club amass joint points
is very much a tactical gala and is not only down to the performance of
swimmers but also the selection process.
Woking teams scored a joint 404 points with second place Winchester on
332 and Alton on 311.
Swimmers of the night for Woking were Alex Smith, Naomi Thrower, Dominic
Holloway and Emma Day.

Picture shows Men's Club Captain, Nic Smith and
Ladies Vice-Captain, Shelley Eastwood, picking up this trophy.
Brighton Open Meeting
This took place on the second weekend of January and was held at the King
Alfred Pool because the normal venue was being refurbished.
The Backstrokers found the venue somewhat strange as the girders were at
a diagonal to the pool and all came off the wall at an angle!
This did not deter any of the swimmers who attained 27 PB's (representing
over 25% of the swims), one of which was a new club record (well done
Emma Day for the Under 10 200m Fly).
During the course of the weekend 14 medals were gained (4 Gold and 5 each
Silver and Bronze). and 29 4th to 8th positions.
GOLD : Dominic Holloway (50 F/C, 100 & 200 BR/S)
Bethany Eastwood (200 BK)
SILVER: Daniel Gibson (100 F/C & 200 BR/S)
John Hargan (100 & 200 BK)
Becky Harding (200 BR/S)
BRONZE: Kim Glazier (100 & 200 BR/S)
Becky Harding (100 BR/S)
Daniel Gibson (100 FLY)
Katherine Robbings (200 BK)
Daniel Gibson qualified for the skins as the fastest 50m F/C swimmer in
his age group and after a thrilling event narrowly missed out on first
place.
Woking swimmers also attained 19 District Qualifying times. Full results
are on the notice board.
What a good start to 2007!
