As the Sub Region for your Club we are responsible for all future Officials training. We shall be running courses for all interested parties during October this year, with the examinations on Monday 6th November, the closing date for entries is Tuesday 12th September. These examinations are also available on line now at http://www.Britishswimming.org, and follow the link to officials. We propose to run our courses over two Sundays, probably at a venue in or near Guildford, rather that has been done previously over four or five evenings.
At the present time we as a County are short of qualified Referees, and I am currently persuading the South East Region to run both Race Results and Referee courses. These are also likely to be held over two Sundays, in order to take these two examinations you will need to be a qualified Timekeeper and Judge, and also have passed the Starters theory paper. The examination date for this is Monday October 9th, and I would anticipate the courses being held during September, the closing date is also the 12th September.
Full details will be sent to all Clubs well in advance.
The first round of the Minor League took place at Pool in the Park. Woking were host to Basingstoke, Hamble, Southampton, Winchester 'B' and Alton 'B'.
Woking were ahead after the first 10 events and never lost the lead, coming away comfortable winners with a lead of 60 points over second placed Basingstoke.
On their way to this victory 19 PB's (out of 42 individual events) and 1 Club Record were achieved. The Club record for the Under 10 Boys Breaststroke fell to Dominic Holloway. Kim Glazier marked her return to WSC with a 2 ½ second PB in the Ladies Open IM.
Other PB's came from Rebecca Merritt and Robert Taylor in the Open 100m Breaststroke; 3 from Chloe Bard in the Girls Under 13 Freestyle, Breaststroke and Butterfly; 3 from Dominic Holloway in the Boys Under 11 Butterfly, Freestyle and Breaststroke; 2 from Daniel Gibson in the Boys Under 15 Breaststroke and Butterfly; 2 from Sam Rumball Boys Under 12 Freestyle and Boys Under 13 Butterfly; Catherine Campbell Girls Under 11 Butterfly, Emma Maurer Girls Under 12 Freestyle;Alex Miller Boys Under 13 Breaststroke; Ruth Tweedie-Smith Girls Under 13 Backstroke; Charlie Cope Boys Under 15 Freestyle; and finally Alex Smith who went under a minute for the first time in the Open Freestyle.
Out of the 42 individual events, Woking swimmers achieved 31 1st and 2nd places. In the 11 relay events Woking claimed 7 1st places and 4 2nd places.
This result puts us in a good position for the second, and final, round of the competition where the competition will be tougher.
Swimmers of the night were Alex Smith and Emma Maurer.
Round 2 is once more at home, Pool in the Park, on the 6th May 2006.
The following recently passed their Practical Time Keeping course at the Surrey's
They are now waiting to take the judges practical exam.

Woking SC had a resounding win after a closely fought battle
in the Wey B Jnr. League against 5 other clubs, and are now the holders of
this very imposing cup.
Woking and Wandsworth were head to head for much of this very exciting gala,
but Woking SC managed to pull away from their opposition and finished in a
blaze of glory by winning the 10 x 25m mixed squadron freestyle relay -
their seventh consecutive win.
PB's fell thick and fast, with a 5sec. PB from Rosie Hamilton and a 6
sec. PB from Henry Mooney in the U11 50BK, and a 5 sec. PB from Henry Stock
in the U11 50FC.
PB's also from Susan Shiel Rankin in 50BRS and 50BK, William Killen in 50
FLY, Becky Spiller, Emma Adams and Phoebe Lenton
in 50FC, Niall Johnson and Alex Campbell in 50BK, Kelly Davidson and Sam
Tucker in 50 BRS, Nicky Britton Williams and Matt Dickenson in 50FLY, and
George Hatfield in 25 FLY.
Coach Karen Eastwood remarked on how pleased she was with all the swimmers - so much so that they were all made swimmers of the night!
The final weekend of the Surrey Championships provided the most exciting
and the most fun for Woking swimmers.
Saturday got off to a cracking start with Woking's first 1-2-3 in the
Girls 12 year old
100 Breast (Becky Harding, Amy Edmonds and Lauren Mooney),
and Rebecca Merritt added to her 50 Breast Gold with a Bronze in the 100
Breast. Robert Taylor also added to his previous Breast medal by picking up the
Bronze in the Open 100 Breast. The presentation of the 1-2-3 got the
loudest cheer of the day from the Woking supporters in the gallery, (even if
Lauren was nearly late for her medal!).
13 4th to 8th places were achieved in the 400 Free and 400 IM events.
The relays were held on Sunday and Woking entered as many as 3 teams in both the younger Boys and Girls age groups, giving the younger swimmers the opportunity for the experience at the Surreys. Congratulations to all those swimmers that turned up to perform and sit tightly together poolside!
After the excitement of the 1-2-3 on the Saturday, the Woking supporters
were
treated to the best relay swim of the day when the Under 13 Girls
Medley Team of Bethany Eastwood, Becky Harding, Joanna Blair and Amy Edmonds
told the Gold position beating Leatherhead (who were the first to
congratulate them) and Guildford teams into second and third place
respectively. This achievement was made doubly rewarding as they knew they
were up against nationally qualified swimmers! As ever, Woking spirit (and
the shouts from the gallery and poolside) inspired!

The Under 13 Boys Medley team of John Hargan, James Styles, Daniel Gibson
and Charlie Cope, came close to emulating the girls success and came away
with a very creditable Bronze Medal.
Final Bagcat positions were awarded to Dominic Holloway (2nd), Becky
Harding (3rd) and Daniel Gibson (3rd). Congratulations to them.
After 6 weekends of competition and 367 swims, no less than 196 PB's were achieved and 14 Club Records were broken. Many children achieved their automatic District Qualifying times and even more achieved Base level, which will no doubt be improved upon over the next few weekends.

Both John Eastwood and Olive Carroll remarked that the entire competition had been enjoyable (but tiring as well as rewarding) and that they couldn't have asked for a better finale for Woking.
Woking swimmers had achieved some spectacular swims and performances throughout the Surreys and the Surrey Development Gala and they, as well as the parents, should be extraordinarily proud of these achievements.
The third weekend of the Surreys, held at Crystal Palace, saw further
success for Woking with another good haul of medals and PB's.

Held at the Spectrum, the Development Gala provided some very good and
exciting swims from Woking. Over the course of the two days, 3 Gold Medals,
9 Silvers, 6 Bronze and 57 4th to 8th placements were achieved. For many of
the swimmers, this was the first time in a County Championship and was a
worthwhile learning experience of this type of competition.

of the weekend. Medals were won by:

Whilst once more cramped conditions prevailed at the Spectrum - and that was just poolside, the WSC supporters were treated to some fantastic swims from their swimmers and a number of podium positions as can be seen from the medal tally.
WSC nearly had a 1-2-3 in the Girls 12 year old Breaststroke however, for a group of just 38 swimmers, the medal tally along with 39 4th to 8th places shows that the home grown swimmers are performing really well.

The swim of the weekend came from 15 year old Rebecca Merritt - her birthday was in January as well- who took a fantastic Gold position in the 50 Breast.

The Bagcat points also prove that WSC are up with the opposition with Dominic Holloway currently in second place in the 9 year old boys, Daniel Gibson and John Hargan 4th and 9th respectively in the 12 year old boys. Becky Harding and Amy Edmonds are currently in 5th and 7th positions in the 12 year old girls, with Joanna Blair 9th in the 13 year olds.

Congratulations to Alistair Koh, Ben Haskell, Connor Wingham, Lucy Troman and Helen Steel who picked up speeding tickets at Cranleigh!
20 WSC swimmers went to the Ealing Open Meeting over the weekend of the
28/29th January . WSC haven't been to a long course Open Meeting in such
numbers for a very long time and didn't come away disappointed. Whilst the
water temperature was cool, which didn't suit some of the swimmers, the
atmosphere was pure Woking poolside with every swim getting support from the
swimmers and the WSC parents who had made the short journey.

14 PB's were achieved by the group of swimmers and DQT's were set by:
Poolside entertainment was again provided by WSC..
