Fun NightSuddenly it's the end of the year again and everyone is dressing up (ridiculously - and that's just the coaches!). WSC Fun Night, as ever started on a serious note, with John Eastwood, Head Coach taking a chance to remind everyone of the great year we've had as a club and thank some of the many that have helped with this success. He took the opportunity to single out all the effort that has gone into making the new Electronic Timing system such a success, through Club Champs and our first gala - in particular recognising the efforts of Brian Robbings. Onto the coaches awards -
Finally the Tom Olley Cup for the most points in the Surreys - Dominic Holloway From here on in - slightly less serious .... I won't even try and explain - 10 games, joker's played, lots of bribery and corruption and a Elftronic Scoreboard. Just look at the photos and you get the idea ...
Elftronic Scoring System (don't ask about the Hawaiian look - it's the latest elf fashion)
Everyone in the pool for the ball race
many woggles as well
Some just swam together for safety
Final points -
Oh and in a new tradition, our illustrious Chairman - Brian - ended up in the pool and John stayed dry (missed you Ross!) Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year from all at WSC National Arena League Round 3 – a Two “Horsham” RaceIt was swimmers not singers that battled it out on Saturday night at Woking Pool in the Park. The local committee in Woking of Surrey County Council and the Hants and South Coast swimming leagues had generously contributed to help with the installation costs of Woking Swimming Clubs new electronic timing system. This enabled the club to host Gala 2 of the final round of the South Division 1 East of the National Arena Swimming League. Seeded second behind Hasting Seagulls it was always going to be tough battle, but it was the fourth seeded Atlantis Horsham that pushed Woking all the way. In the gala programme of 50 events Woking came home first in fourteen of them, second in sixteen and fifteen swimmers achieving PBs on the night. The U13 Boys Medley Relay team of James Cumins, Dominic Holloway, Oliver Kenworthy and Daniel West provided the first win of the night, quickly matched in the next event by the U15 Girls Freestyle Relay team of Ruth Tweedie-Smith, Katherine Robbings, Chloe Bard and Clare Maurer. After 10 events Atlantis held a six point advantage but by event 14 Woking were a point ahead thanks to a win from Ben Kenworthy (and a PB ) in the U11 50m Backstroke and a couple of dominate swims in the 100m Breaststroke from Holloway (U13) and Kirsty McKnight (U15). After 20 events Woking held the lead by only four points and had stretched this to eleven points after event 30 only to have Atlantis storm back to level the scores after event 34. Hazel Ferguson won the U11 50m Freestyle, with Atlantis in third and Hannah Burvill took the U13 100m Freestyle with Atlantis fourth. By event 40 Woking had edged ahead by just 2 points, only for Atlantis to level again after event 42 with just the remaining set of relays to go. With four firsts, two seconds and a third from the last 8 events, Woking were crowned gala winners with 227 points to Atlantis’ 221 points. The result means an overall seventh place finish for Woking in Division 1 East where they will compete for honours again next year. Haslemere Elite Level 2 Open MeetTwenty eight swimmers from Woking Swimming Club attended the recent Haslemere Elite Level 2 Open Meet. One hundred individual swims resulted in 32 personal bests and a medal tally of 29 made up of 12 Gold, 12 Silver and 5 Bronze. Dominic Holloway came away with the top 13-year old Boy BAGCAT award as a result of his two Golds (50 and 100 Breaststroke), two Silvers (200 Back and 200 Breaststroke) and two bronzes (50 Fly and 50 Free). 12-year old Hannah Burvill had a very productive weekend dominating the Freestyle events taking Gold in the 50, 100 and 200 events backed up by 6 Silvers (400 Free, 200 IM, 50 Fly, 50, 100 and 200 Back). Holloway’s Surrey teammate Calum Ferguson amassed three Gold (50 Back, 50 and 100 Fly), three Silver (50 Breast, 100 Back and 100 Free) and one Bronze (50 Free). Further contributions to the medal tally where Golds from James Chambers (50 Free and 50 Back), Zack Fowden (100 Fly), Charlotte George (50 Fly), Silver from Emma Maurer (100 Breaststroke) and Bronzes from Bethany Eastwood (100 Back) and Charlie Bridgwater (200 Back) Mariano Lines, Kirsten Young and Isabella Embleton swam PB's in all their events with Chambers, Phoebe Lenton and Elizabeth Jamieson obtaining PBs in all but one of their events. Bridgwater, Matt Dickenson, Calum and Hazel Ferguson, Dominic and Sam Holloway, Andrew Roy, Alex Watson and Ella Wood all achieved one or more PBs over the course of the weekend. Head Coach John Eastwood was very pleased with the efforts from the swimmers and said “A great result from an event so soon after our hectic Club Championship schedule”. Woking now look forward to hosting and competing in the final round gala in the National Arena League on Saturday 12th December where all support is welcomed as the swimmers aim for gala victory. Full House For AlexIn the penultimate round of Woking’s Club Championship, featuring the 200 Fly, first places were achieved by Charlotte George (10), Lucy Maurer (11), Kirsty McKnight (12-13), Katherine Robbings (14-15) and Tia Thurlow (16/O). For the boys Ben Kenworthy (11), Calum Ferguson (12-13), Alex Miller (14-15) and Ben Smith 16/O) took gold. Ben Kenworthy and Calum also achieved championship records for their swims. An impressive 15 PB’s were swum.
Other stand-out performances on the night came from Hannah Burvill, Calum Ferguson, Charlotte George, Ben Kenworthy, Emma Maurer, Alex Smith, Lucy Maurer and Catherine Taylor, who all won three out of four races for their age groups. Anna Maine won three out of three events. Alex and Charlotte got out of the blocks fastest in the first event of the night, the 100m IM, both setting championship records in the Open Men’s and Girls Under 11 Years age groups respectively. Charlotte would go on to claim the championship records for the Girls Under 11 Years 200m Backstroke and 100m Freestyle later on, while Alex followed up smashing the Open Men’s 100m freestyle club record a week ago at the British University Championships by taking the championship record this time around. It was in the 200m Breaststroke that the other championship record to fall came, as Zack Fowden set a new standard in the Boys Under 11 Years age group. Seventy two swims on the night resulted in either a Surrey qualifying time or an improved Surrey QT, and the final flourish was provided by a storming final heat of the Boys 100m Freestyle, where five of the six competitors ducked under the magic one minute barrier. The whole of the Club Championships programme was deemed to have been a great success by all involved with the use of electronic timing for the first time bringing the times direct to the watching gallery instantly. National Arena Swimming League Round 2 – Gold at the end of the RainbowThe Rainbow Leisure Centre in Epsom was the venue for the 2nd round of Division 1 East of the National Arena Swimming League. There was indeed gold at the end of this Rainbow when in the 3rd event of the evening Woking Swimming Club’s Girls 11&Under Freestyle relay team of Lucy Maurer, Katie Shiel-Rankin, Elizabeth Jamieson and Charlotte George touched home in 2:16.22, a victory repeated later in the evening when Hazel Ferguson joined George, Jamieson and Maurer to take the 11/U medley relay. The 13/U boys freestyle and medley relay team of James Cumins, Dominic Holloway, Calum Ferguson and Oliver Kenworthy also achieved the double. Ruth Tweedie-Smith, Katherine Robbings, Chloe Bard and Clare Maurer added to the points taking victory in the 15/U freestyle Relay. Seven PBs were recorded on the night with 14 years-old Emma Maurer recording hers in the very first event, the Open 100m Individual Medley, the others coming from Ben Kenworthy (1st 11/U 50m Backstroke, James Watson (15/U 100m Butterfly), Zack Fowden (1st 11/U 50m Breaststroke), Clare Maurer (15/U 100m Freestyle) and Hannah Burvill (1st 13/U 100m Freestyle). As the evening progressed Sevenoaks started to draw clear with Woking snapping at the heels of Epsom in second place. Andrew Roy and Edward Lee combined with Kenworthy and Fowden to record another relay victory (11/U Medley Relay) and the gap was further closed. As the noise poolside reached fever pitch the penultimate race of the night produced the result of the evening when the 6x50m Girls Open Freestyle Relay team of Catherine Taylor, Jo Blair, Clare Maurer, Bethany Eastwood, Chloe Bard and Ruth Tweedie-Smith stormed home in 2:58.40 to take 1st place. When the points were finally counted Epsom had held on by a mere 4 points leaving Sevenoaks the overall winners and Woking solidly in 3rd ahead of Elmbridge Phoenix, 1066 Swimmers and White Oak. Swimmers of the night were Clare Maurer and Calum Ferguson. The final round of the National Arena League will take place on Saturday, 12th December where Woking will be looking for a gala win to secure their overall position in Division 1 East. Club Champs light up the scoreboardFireworks may have filled the sky, but Woking Swimming Club’s new Electronic Timing system was alight with sparkling times as the events of the annual Club Championships continued over the last week. Multiple Club and Championship records fell, together with achievement of numerous Surrey Qualification Times and Personal Bests. Dominic Holloway (U14) and Ben Kenworthy (U12) took the respective age group Club records for the gruelling 32-length 800m freestyle event that Rebecca Adlington made her own at the Bejing Olympics. Hannah Burvill continued her impressive run of form taking the Championship record and both the U13 and U14 club record for the equally challenging 400m Freestyle. Sixty five Woking swimmers competed in the 400m freestyle recording no less than 57 PBs with 11 times being enough to achieve or better the Surrey Qualification mark. On Sunday the 100m Backstroke, 200m Individual Medley, 100m Breaststroke, 200m Freestyle and 100m Butterfly events were run. 112 swimmers completed 369 individual swims, with 268 PBs recorded including first time swims in an event. 37 swims achieved or bettered times for Surrey Qualification. Alex Miller (U16) took home all five trophies. Three Championship Records fell, one each to Charlotte George (U11 200m Free), Ben Kenworthy (U12 100m Fly) and Calum Ferguson (U14 200m IM) and each of them stocked up their trophy cabinets with four a piece. Emma Hassanein (U11), Lucy Maurer (U12), Katie Shiel-Rankin (U12), Hannah Burvill (U14), Dominic Holloway (U14), Katherine Robbings (U16), Emma Maurer (U16), Tia Thurlow (O16) and Catherine Taylor (O16) joined George, Ferguson and Miller in winning a medal in each of their 5 events on the day. Also taking medals in every event they swam were Thomas Webb and Max Dorrell (U10 200IM and 200m Freestyle), with Edward Lee, Fraser Tattersdill and Tom Holwell (U11) producing the same finish order in the same events. Anna Maine and Amanda Jack shared the honours for the U10 Girls 200IM and 200 Freestyle. Hannah goes the distance (Rushmoor)Hannah Burvill’s star shone brightest as Woking’s swimmers travelled over to Aldershot for Rushmoor Royals’ annual October open meet, being held this year as a short course event. Amidst a sea of PBs and medals, it was her stunning swim in the 800m freestyle that stood out as she broke two club records and won another gold medal to go with several others that she had collected over the weekend. Dipping just under ten minutes, the swim took not only the Under 14 record (previously held by Georgie Fromson) but the Under 16 record as well – not bad for a girl who only turned twelve two months ago. Elsewhere, Hannah also took gold in the 200m freestyle (where she won by a staggering five seconds), 200m I.M. and 50m freestyle, taking the time to grab silvers in the 50m and 200m backstroke, and the 400m freestyle. Of the thirty four swimmers who competed in Woking’s colours, one hundred and twenty nine swims produced seventy nine PBs – a fantastic return. Medals were also won in abundance, with nine golds, thirteen silvers and six bronzes being claimed in total. In the 9/10 years age group, Hazel Ferguson and Charlotte George took golds in their respective 50m backstroke and 50m butterfly races, while Hazel’s brother Calum was victorious in his 50m fly in the 13/14 years category. Kirsty McKnight made it a 1-2 finish for Woking in the 11/12 years 50m freestyle, taking silver behind Hannah, and plundered a gold of her own in the 200m breaststroke. Also tasting success were Ben Smith and Emma Maurer in the 50m breaststroke – Ben claiming a silver in the Open age group, with Emma again taking gold in the 13/14 years category. Emma also emerged from the weekend’s events with a silver in the 200m breaststroke, and there were further silvers from Charlotte (400m free, 200m fly), Charlie Bridgewater (9/10 years 50m and 200m breaststroke), Hazel (200m backstroke, 50m freestyle) and Katherine Robbings (13/14 years 50m backstroke). Finally, there were bronzes for Kirsty (50m backstroke, 200m I.M.), Hazel (200m freestyle), Calum (400m I.M.), Emma (200m I.M.) and Sam Holloway (Open 200m breaststroke). In the PressWSC are in News and Mail and the Woking Review this week (w/c 19th October). The review will carry the Cranleigh/Crawley report and the News & Mail the club champs/electronic timing piece. In addition, they’ve pushed the club champs/timing article to the GetSurrey website, which you can view here: http://www.getsurrey.co.uk/sport/s/2059327_swimming_red_letter_day_as_timing_unveiled_at_gala 50’s Night looks to the futureThere was nothing retro about the opening events in the 2009 Woking Swimming Club Championships held at Pool in the Park. This was the first live action for the Club’s newly installed electronic timing system enhancing both swimmer and spectator experience. The wall mounted 6 lane scoreboard displays real time results for each race as soon as the swimmers hit the timing pad in the water when they finish. Times and places are immediately available and linked to the Hytek Meet Manager software enabling a lot of the gala administration to happen automatically.
This first outing of the Colorado Timing System marked the successful culmination of the long term project to get the system installed and operating at the pool involving numerous committee members, volunteers, helpers and pool staff. The club wishes to thank all those involved and especially club Chairman Brian Robbings who lead the project and spent many a Tuesday night at the pool up a ladder. The opening events on Sunday were the sprint 50m events in each of the four strokes. 127 individual swimmers swam over 500 races split across 90 heats. Numerous PBs and 74 Qualification Times for next year’s Surrey County Championships were achieved or bettered with five Championship records falling on the night, two to Charlotte George (U11 Backstroke and Butterfly), one to Ben Kenworthy (U12 Backstroke) and Alex Smith (O16 Freestyle), with Ruth Tweedie-Smith taking the U16 Backstroke, a record which has stood for 13 years. The electronic timing will be in action again throughout the course of November for all of the remaining Club Championships events and the Winter Ribbon Diddys, where the youngest club swimmers get their first experience of competition in the main pool. The Long and the Short of itTempted by the Long Course Opportunity Ben Smith, Hannah Burvill and Amy Harrington recently headed for K2 Crawley in search of 50m times. 12 year-old Hannah scored two PBs, her 200IM time convincingly taking the Gold with a further win in the 200m Backstroke. Ben brought home a silver for his efforts in the 16 and over 100m Breaststroke. At the same time 35 other Woking Swimmers were at the regular Cranleigh meet, this year held at Horsham because the Cranleigh pool is currently undergoing refurbishment. 121 individual swims yielded a better than 50% return of 68 PBs, a fantastic achievement so early in the season. PB full houses came from Amanda Jack (6 swims), William Hurman (4), Ella Wood (3), Ella Fowden (2), Francesca Monteiro (2), Jack Pearce (2) and Mariano Lines. Almost every Woking swimmer competing came home with at least one PB. The medal table ended up at twelve Golds, eight Silvers and nine Bronzes. Calum Ferguson topped the list winning each of his five events (50/100/200m Free, 100m Fly and 200 IM), Haaris Wyne took two (50m Breast, 50m Fly) with individual Golds for Andrew Roy and Anna Maine (50m Back), Charlotte George and Katherine Robbings (200m Back) and Chris Zahn (200m Breast). Robbings added four silvers to her haul (100m Back and Fly, 100 and 200m Free) with silvers also going to Roy and Jack (200m Back), Zahn (100m Breast) and Emma Hassanein (50m Breast). Zahn was to feature again with two bronzes (50m Free, 200 IM) as did Jack (50m Back) and Maine (50m Breast). Adding to the bronze tally was Matthew Aubry (50m Fly), Michael Sugden (200m Breast), Natasha Holden (50m Back), Robyn Hartwell (50m Breast) and Zack Fowden (200m Breast). Wild Wild WestArena, the new sponsor for the next three seasons of the National Swimming League weren’t the only ones to be pleased with the results from Round One galas of the Arena National Swimming League. Daniel West and Chloe Bard were swimmers of the night as Woking began their league campaign with a solid performance at Braintree. Missing several key swimmers they nevertheless produced some outstanding swims and clinched third place at the end of the night, narrowly behind Epsom District. With numerous swimmers having to compete up an age group, Woking were always going to have a harder time than usual in the relays, but the first ten events produced some excellent team performances, most notably from the 15/U Girls Freestyle team of Ruth Tweedie-Smith, Katherine Robbings, Chloe Bard and Clare Maurer, who won their race in impressive fashion. Four other second place finishes ensured that Woking were only just off leaders Chelmsford going into the individual events. The PBs promptly started rolling in, with Ben Kenworthy getting the first in the process of winning his 11/U 50m Backstroke. Ben would later go on to achieve another PB/1st place double in his other individual event, the 11/U 50m Freestyle. Other personal milestones came from Kirsty McKnight (13/U 100m Breaststroke and 100m Butterfly), Ruth Tweedie-Smith (15/U 100m Backstroke), Hannah Burvill (13/U 100m Backstroke), Chloe Bard (15/U 100m Butterfly), James Watson (15/U 100m Butterfly), Katherine Robbings (Open 100m Breaststroke), Emma Maurer (15/U 100m Breaststroke) and Ross Arnfield (Open 100m Freestyle). Victories were also provided, most notably by Ruth, Chloe, Emma, Dominic Holloway (13/U 100m Backstroke) and Calum Ferguson (13/U 100m Butterfly and 100m Freestyle). With only the last set of relays remaining, Woking’s swimmers made a dash for the finish, notching four wins and one second place from the last eight races. The plaudits went to the boys 11/U Medley team (Andrew Roy, Zack Fowden, Ben and Edward Lee), the boys 13/U Freestyle team (Daniel, James Cumins, Dominic and Calum), the girls 15/U Medley team (Katherine, Chloe, Emma and Clare) and the girls Open Freestyle team (Ruth, Clare, Bethany Eastwood, Chloe, Tia Thurlow and Catherine Taylor). The results secured Woking’s third place finish and set them up well for the next round at Epsom in a month’s time.
Juniors On FormWoking’s younger swimmers were on top form as the club continued their impressive start to the season. Hosting the gala against much vaunted opposition, they performed admirably and were rewarded with a narrow second place finish to Haslemere. The night began with a PB in the very first event – Catherine Campbell securing a new personal milestone in her U14 100m Breaststroke. Eighteen other PBs were to follow from thirty three individual events, a rate better than a PB every other swim. The team also did not have to wait long for the first victory of the gala, which was provided in the sixth event, the U11 25m Butterfly, by Haaris Wyne. Woking’s swimmers would go on to record eight other individual first place finishes and four relay victories over the course of the night, with wins coming from Hannah Burvill (U13 50m Freestyle), Hazel Ferguson (U11 50m Backstroke), Oliver Kenworthy (U13 50m Backstroke and 50m Butterfly), Charlotte George (U11 50m Freestyle), Edward Lee (U11 50m Freestyle), Kirsty McKnight (U13 50m Butterfly) and Ben Kenworthy (U12 50m Backstroke). After ten events, Woking sat in joint third position with Haslemere with only six points separating the top four sides. As the first half of the relays got underway Woking and Haslemere made up considerable ground on Ferndown and Bracknell, with Haslemere coming out leading the gala and Woking in a close third. Three second place finishes were achieved by Woking’s relay teams, with the plaudits going to the U13 Boys Medley relay team of the Kenworthy brothers, Chris Zahn and Flyn Parker as they pulled off a magnificent first place. The swimmers then really began to turn on the power as the individuals began again, at one point gaining PBs in five consecutive races. After forty events and with the second set of relays about to begin Woking had pulled clear of third place Ferndown and were only five points short of eventual winners Haslemere. Sadly for Woking, three wins and a second place finish from the remaining eleven events was not enough to take the trophy, with Haslemere coming out on top with a fourteen point margin of victory. Second place, however, was still a fine result against difficult opponents. Swimmers of the night were Kirsty McKnight and James Chambers.
Big Rother!Saturday night saw the Woking Swimming club team travel to Bracknell for the final round of the Hants and South Coast Rother League. The three round Rother league competition has a unique format, Round 1 comprising age bands U11, U13, U15 and Open, Round 2 is solely Relays for U12, U14, U16 and Open with the Round 3 programme similar to Round 1 but with the Round 2 age bands of U12, U14, U16 and Open. Woking were lying in 2nd place after solid performances in the earlier two rounds of the competition but Round 3 was going to be tough with teams from Bracknell, Staines and Haslemere in the mix, all of whom swim in the southern premier division of the National Swimming league. In addition, some swimmers were required to compete out of age band, most notably in the 100m Breaststroke where Chris Zahn (12 years old) raced in the U16 event and female swimmer of the night Katherine Robbings (14 years old) in the Open event – both recording PBs. A further ten PBs were recorded from the 36 individual swims on the night. Third place finishes from Alex Woodman (Open 100m Fly), Emma Maurer (U16 100m Breaststroke), Charlotte George (U12 50m Fly), Hannah Burvill (U14 50m Back) and Bethany Eastwood (Open 100m Back) together with second places from Haaris Wyne (U12 50m Fly) and Calum Ferguson (U14 50m Back) left Woking in a creditable 4th place going into the first set of relays. Ruth Tweedie-Smith and Amy Harrington teamed up Robbings and Maurer in girls U16 medley relay coming home in third as did the U12 girls in the Freestyle relay where George was joined by Hazel Ferguson, Lucy Spruzs and Lucy Maurer. In the Open category the women’s Freestyle relay of Jo Blair, Tia Thurlow and Catherine Taylor combined with Eastwood to also finish third, a result matched by the boys U14 medley team of James Cumins, Zahn, Ferguson and Daniel West. The first set of relays were topped off with the result of the evening when Ross Arnfield, Charlie Cope, Alex Woodman and Alex Smith produced a stunning swim, winning the Men’s Open Freestyle relay in 47.15 seconds giving them all the accolade of male swimmers of the night. Second place finishes from Ferguson (girls U12 50m back) and Dominic Holloway (U14 50m Breaststroke) coupled with more thirds from Burvill (U14 50m Free), Smith (Men’s Open 100m free) and Tweedie-Smith (U16 100m Back) and a raft of fourth and fifths continued to rack up the points and consolidate the 4th place overall somewhat comfortably ahead of Worthing but with the top three teams now stretching away. The last set of relays produced more third places from Emma Hassanein joining Ferguson, Spruzs and Maurer in the U12 Medley; Holloway, West, Cumins and Ferguson in the U14 Free; Tweedie-Smith, Harrington, Robbings and Maurer, U16 Free and lastly the 8-leg squadron relay. Haslemere ran out as gala winners followed by Staines and Bracknell with Woking in fourth ahead of Worthing and Sutton & Cheam. Bracknell’s third place gave them the overall Rother league title. Woking were very pleased to have gone one better than last year’s competition, finishing 4th overall. The evening ended with a separate Masters relay event where the combined age of the swimmers must exceed 120 years and Woking’s team of Amanda Harvey, Catherine Ferguson, Brian Robbings and Ben Smith finished second behind Staines so missing out on the silverware. Hazel Ferguson and Chris Zahn were nominated as Woking’s swimmers of the league by the Woking team managers and coaches. Hants and South Coast Junior Cup Round 1Swiftly off the blocks the younger swimmers of Woking Swimming Club were
in action in the first gala fixture of the new season. The start was delayed
by 45 minutes due to the fire-alarm triggering, but thankfully the only
thing on fire this evening were the performances of the Woking swimmers.
Almost half of the individual swims resulted in PBs, 19 being recorded
across the evening. The team finished no lower than 3rd in all but four of
the 51 events totalling 29 firsts, 10 seconds and 7 thirds. Wins from
Dominic Holloway (U14 100m Breaststroke), Chris Zahn (U13 50m Breaststroke),
Lucy Spruzs and Haaris Wyne (U11 25m Fly) and Hannah Burvill (U13 50m
Freestyle) racked up the points going into the first set of relays which
Woking dominated, taking five wins from the eight events. Hazel Ferguson won
both the U11 50m Backstroke and U11 50m Freestyle events, with her brother
Calum winning the U14 100m Fly. The boys winning streak continued with Charlie Bridgwater (U11) and James Cumins (U13) taking the 50m Backstroke events, Bridgwater producing another win in the U11 50m Breaststroke with Emma Hassanein matching the result in the girls event. James Chambers and Ben Kenworthy continued the winning ways in the U12 50m Freestyle and 50m Backstroke events respectively. Burvill notched up two further individual wins in the U13 50m Backstroke and U14 100m Freestyle. The final set of relays produced six wins from the eight events as Woking stretched their lead further. Calum Ferguson rounded off the individual events with another win in the U14 100m Backstroke leaving the eight leg squadron relay as a formality and a fitting finale for the Woking performance finishing over 50 points ahead of the 2nd placed team. The final result was:
Swimmers of the night were awarded to Charlie Bridgwater and Katie Shiel-Rankin. The result puts Woking in the top gala for the second and final round which they will host on Saturday 3rd October at Pool in the Park. Surreys 2010The details for the Surreys have been released early this year and we are posting information at this page Autumn Season previewAs the school holidays finish the Autumn swimming term is upon us and the
swimmers of Woking Swimming Club are back in the water training hard for
their busy competition schedule. This is swiftly off the blocks with the
Hants and South Coast League Junior Cup Round 1 hosted at Pool in the Park
on Saturday, September 12th. The two round competition is for swimmers under
14 and the first round sees Woking competing in the pool against Alton,
Bracknell, Locks Heath, Hamble and Wey Valley with Guersney-based Beau
Sejour posting their times in for the overall result. Three separate galas
make up the first round with the winners of each automatically going into
the top final round gala (to be held on Saturday, October 3rd). The
remaining teams are ranked in points order with top teams added to the final
round gala and the remaining teams competing in the final round galas for
Division 2 and 3 honours. Woking will be looking to improve on the
performance last year where we ended up as runners-up in Division 2. The following Saturday, 19th September, Woking travel to Bracknell for
the 3rd and final round of the Hants and South Coast Rother League
competition. Two solid previous rounds have us currently in 2nd place in
Division 1 on 9.5 points, behind hosts Bracknell on 12 points. There will be
stiff competition from the other strong teams in this gala with our old
rivals Staines competing, along with Haslemere, Sutton & Cheam and Worthing.
Here we are looking to better our 5th place finish from last year. Moving into October the Open Meet programme starts with swimmers entering
the Cranleigh Level 3 meet (to be held at Horsham this year) and the
Rushmoor Royals Level 2 meet at Aldershort (run as short course this year
due to the ASA licensing changes). Both meets provide great opportunities to
improve those PBs and for those looking to work towards Surrey or Regional
