Woking swimmers were out in force at the K2 in Crawley, on 13th and 14th May, for the first of two South East Regional Championships weekends.

Dominic Gunn was the first swimmer out, representing Woking in the gruelling 1500m event. A good effort against a strong field with Dominic finishing in a time of 19:09.01.
Girls 200 IM heats
The first Woking girls to swim were Zoe Ryan (2:47.55) and Abigail Stemp (2:34.70) in the 200IM; both girls had great swims, both pretty much bang on PBs and both finishing in the top half of the results table in their respective age groups.
Boys 200m breaststroke heats
Joshua Thompson swam a strong first 100m and a finished with a very strong overall performance against a fast field of swimmers in a time of 3:04.53.
Girls 200m fly heats
Alex Tait looked equally strong in her fly swim finishing with a good LC time of 2:43.99, right on entry time if short/long converted and Abigail Stemp (2:29.18) then proceeded to win her heat strongly in 2:28.75 placing her 3rd going into the final later in the day.
Boys 100m free heats
Hendrik Van der Leest (entry time 1:01.65) swam a fabulous race setting a huge PB in a time of 1:00.85. A great swim and a chance to make the finals in the afternoon.
Dominic Gunn and Brin Dorrell followed with well fought 100m swims, setting times of 1:01.33 and 59.69sec, respectively.
Girls 100m backstroke heats
Zoe Ryan swam a LC PB in a time of 1:18.41 placing her a very solid 18th place.
Kiera Heney also set a LC PB in a time of 1:16.54, missing finals but placing her 12th overall.
Finally, a solid swim from Lucia Veasey in a time of 1:13.71.
Boys 50m backstroke heats
Hendrik Van der Leest’s time of 32.13sec saw him firmly through to the finals later in the day,
as did Brin Dorrell’s swim of 30.71 sec. Great to see two Woking boys in the finals later.
Girls 50 freestyle heats
Zoe Ryan swam yet another PB in a time of 31.40sec.
Danel Jansen just outside her PB in 30.63sec as with Lucia Veasey in 29.74sec, breaking 30sec again; a great achievement LC.
Kiera Heney’s swim of 30.17sec saw her through to the afternoon in finals whilst
Alex Tait’s 28.91sec placed her in 9th position as first reserve and the hope she may still get a finals swim. Abigail Stemp’s 29.10sec also placed her as one of the finals reserves.
GIRLS 14 YEARS 200m BUTTERFLY FINAL
Abigail Stemp – fantastic swim, strong off the start and maintained her position to come 2nd with a massive 2 second PB. Silver medal – well done Abi!
BOYS 13 YEARS 100m FREESTYLE FINAL
Hendrik Van Der Leest swam his hardest eventually placing 8th, having been a reserve and swimming a great PB in the heats. Well done Hendrik, a great achievement making the final.
BOYS 13 YEARS 50m BACKSTROKE FINAL
Hendrik Van Der Leest had a quick turn-around for his next final. Hendrik swam hard and it paid off with a PB and 6th place. Another great swim, Hendrik.
BOYS 14 YEARS 50m BACKSTROKE FINAL
Brin Dorrell – kept his focus and came 8th with a close finish.
GIRLS 11/12 YEARS 50m FREESTYLE FINAL
Kiera Heney – great race and fought hard, achieving a PB and finishing in an impressive 4th position in 29.80sec. Well done Kiera. A superb swim!
Girls 200m back heats
Kiera Heney’s first race of the day saw her battle hard and was rewarded with a huge LC PB in a time of 2:41.99 , placing her an impressive 10th overall.
Boys 200m free heats
The PBs keep on coming for Hendrik Van der Leest, this time with a fantastic swim in the 200m free heats in a time of 2:14.63, a great 2 sec PB. Dominic Gunn followed with a small PB and Brin Dorrell, only just back from a knee operation, was determined to take part and produced a solid swim.
Girls 100m fly heats
Lucia Veasey swam a gutsy heat, resulting in a small LC PB in a time of 1:11.73.
Alex Tait time of 1:10.10 saw her with a good PB and Abigail Stemp’s time of 1:07.86, a great swim and safely into the final finishing strongly in 6th position after a busy weekend.
Boys 100m and Girls 50m breast heats
Dominic Gunn was back in the water for his 100m breast swim followed by Zoe Ryan, who had a solid swim that was just outside her PB in a time of 41.21 sec.
Boys 50m fly heats
Hendrik Van der Leest PBed yet again in the fly heats in a time of 31.01sec, a 1/2 sec PB and a narrow margin between a finals place and his impressive 11th place finish.
Girls 400 free heats
Kiera Heney gallantly swam the gruelling 400m free, finishing a long weekend of swimming.
