Day 1 (Heats)
Hannah Burvill was the first Woking swimmer in the (very cold!) water at Ponds Forge, setting a great heat time for the 200m free of 2:01.85, taking her comfortably into the finals tonight in 5th place.
Brin Dorrell, in his first Nationals, followed with a great swim in his 50m back event, equalling his PB in a time of 30.23. Matthew Ferguson followed with a PB in 50m back in a time of 28.03sec and securing a finals place, ranked 6th. ‘Project 27’ for Matthew and ‘Project 2:00’ for Hannah in the finals tonight!
Day 1 (Finals)
Hannah swam a superb PB in the finals, coming back in the second half of the race to take a well deserved 4th place, breaking 2:01 for the first time in a time of 2:00.90. A fantastic race amongst some superb British swimming talent.
Matthew was next up in the 16yr 50m back final. A great start and very close race between 4th and 8th place, saw Matthew break into the 27secs for the first time in a PB or 27.79secs in 7th place.
Project ‘2:00′ and Project ’27’ firmly delivered! Well done both.
Day 2 (Heats)
Anna Maine began her Nationals with a season’s best time in the 100m back heats, in a time of 1:01.41, taking her through as 2nd seed by only 0.01secs. A great swim on the back of hard training as she prepares for World Junior Championships in late August.
Hannah Burvill followed with her own season’s best time in the 50m fly and seeing her safely through to the afternoon finals.
Day 2 (Finals)
Anna Maine had her second solid swim of the day and secured the first Woking medal with silver in the 17/18yr 100m backstroke, followed by Hannah’s 50m fly event where Hannah equalled her heat time in a very close race. Onwards to the 50m Free tomorrow for both girls!
Day 3 (Heats)
Abi Stemp was the first Woking swimmer in the gruelling 200m fly. Abi swam a splendid first 100m and finished with a time of 2:30.17. Outside her PB but a great swim at this level.
Matthew Ferguson was up next in the 100m free heats. A solid 54.28sec (0.04sec from his recent PB) saw him just make the finals in 10th seed. Project ‘make the finals!’ successful!
The girls were up next for the 50m Freestyle sprint, with Maddie Exton, Anna Maine and Hannah Burvill all representing Woking. Very competitive races at this age and all had solid swims with Anna Maine the one who saw herself safely through to the finals in a time of 26.31sec as second fastest qualifier.
Two Woking finals tonight to look forward to and all cheering for a medal!
Day 3 (Finals)
Matthew’s 100m Free final saw him increase his placing from 10th to 9th in a time of 54.30 whilst Anna Maine was yet again battling it out for a medal position in the closest race of the night to come back in the last 5m and take Silver in a PB time of 26.17sec. Another great medal position. Well done both!
Onto day 4 and the girls are in action for the 100m Freestyle.
Day 4 (Heats and Finals)
Hannah Burvill and Maddie Exton swam great season’s best swims in 100m free to make it through to the 19yr/over and 17/18yr evening finals in times of 56.41 sec ( Hannah) and 58.41 sec (Maddie). Well done Maddie for making your first Nationals final!
The finals saw both girls swim another solid swim with Hannah placing 8th and Maddie 10th in a very competitive line up of sprinters.
Day 5 brings the boys splash and dash (50m), girls 50m back and the long awaited exciting relays!
Day 5 Heats
The Woking boys were out in force for the 50m freestyle sprint. Matthew Ferguson (15) was first up, swimming a PB of 24.64, securing him a 2nd place seed in tonight’s finals. Owen Morgan (33) and Alex Smith (27) followed with times of 23.62 and 23.91secs respectively. Andrew Roy (19) and Ewan Smith (17) were next up with 23.68 and 24.20, both very close to their PBs.
Hannah Burvill looked in great form, swimming 50m back in a PB time of 29.61secs and comfortably through to the finals followed by Anna Maine who secures a joint 1st seeding going into the finals with a super fast time of 28.93secs.
The mens 17/0ver free relay team of Ewan Smith, Kieran Hodson Kilroy , Ed Lee and Alex Smith swam a solid relay performance in a time of 3:37.49 .
The girls team of Anna Maine, Hazel Ferguson, Maddie Exton and Hannah Burvill then followed with an amazing time of 3:50.32 in a new SouthEast region record and into the final in 3rd place.

Day 5 Finals
Matthew Ferguson, in his third final of the week, after a superb start and in yet another close ‘splash and dash’ in the 50m free managed to swim another PB, in a time of 24.41 sec, and secure his first national medal in bronze medal position.
Anna Maine followed in the 50m backstroke, seeded joint 1st seed, and after also a fabulous start, held on to take Gold in the 50m backstroke in also another PB of the week in a time of 28.65s. A great end to the week for Anna Maine in the middle of her hard training.
The relay girls were next up in their very competitive final! Amazing swims by all girls saw them break the SE regional record once again and secure a 5th place. A great achievement looking at the elite competition and fresh legs brought in by many other teams!
On to Day 6 and Ewan Smith to go in the 50m Fly!
Day 6 Heats
Ewan Smith was the final Woking swimmer in the British Championships, swimming in the 17/18 yr 50m fly. Despite being just 17, Ewan’s strong heat swim secured his place in the final, seeded 8th in a sub 26 sec time of 25.90.
A great last swim and bringing to an end a superb week for Woking swimmers.
